Your changing body: Signs of pregnancy.

There are many signs of pregnancy throughout the nine months. Some are clearly obvious that you have a growing baby in your womb, and others only you can feel. While the rotund mound under your shirt where your waist usually is will illicit warm comments and questions about your due date, the headaches and nausea you feel are just as real. The signs of pregnancy range from a swelling abdomen to slight aches and pains. They also come from different sources; some signs are hormonal, while others are due to the gained weight from the pregnancy.

Some clear signs of pregnancy include missed menstrual cycles, increased urination, fatigue, nausea and vomiting. Pregnant women often experience one or most of such signs, but remember that experiencing such signs of pregnancy means you are definitely pregnant. Missed menstrual cycles could be indicative of a fluctuation of weight, going on or off the birth control pill or stress. Increased urination could mean a urinary tract infection or diabetes. Even if you experience all or some of these signs of pregnancy, the only sure way to know if you are pregnant is to visit your doctor.

As your baby grows, your abdomen will as well. This is one of the clear signs of pregnancy, but it will have an effect on other parts of your body. As your baby gets larger, you will carry around extra weight that your body is not used to. Your back may become sore and ankles swollen.

To prepare your body for the weight gain and to stay healthy, properly taking care of your health will make such signs of pregnancy more easy. Light exercise, like swimming or walking, is good for you during pregnancy. If you are experiencing discomfort in your back, resting at night with a heating pad will ease some of the pain. Elevating swollen ankles when you are laying down will help as well as wearing proper footwear; your feet may get several sizes larger during pregnancy, so always wear comfortable, supportive shoes that fit your feet at that moment.
