As the old saying goes, timing is everything. Fortunately, you will have about a four-day window during your ovulation cycle when conception is possible and its the best time to get pregnant. If you don't already, start tracking your menstrual cycles on the calendar. Typically, 12 to 15 days before your next period is the time when you are most fertile and a couple is most able to conceive.

It's all physiological: During an ovulation cycle, a woman's pituitary gland increases production of the hormone "LH," and this is known as the "LH Surge." Approximately 36 hours after the surge, the ovary releases an egg. In other words, a woman is then ovulating and it is the best time to get pregnant. Have intercourse immediately before, during and after ovulation; sperm can fertilize and egg for up to three days in a woman's reproductive system, so repeated intercourse gives you a better chance of conceiving a baby.

Remember that all menstrual cycles, couples and circumstances widely vary so getting to know your body, tracking your ovulation, talking with your partner and staying healthy will increase your chances for success. Once you know that it is the best time to get pregnant for you, you will be on the right track. If both partner's reproductive systems are healthy, there are no fertility problems and it is the best time to get pregnant, a couple has a 25 percent chance of conceiving each month.
